When developing our slow stream rehabilitation service we always kept our principle aims in mind: to allow people the time they require to achieve their goals, increase their independence whilst ensuring all the gains they have made so far are retained. Most people who come to us will already of had an acute period of rehabilitation, and to maintain the progress made they require time and patience to develop this further in a diverse range of settings. Most people in our care will already have had a period of acute rehabilitation and they now need time and patience to progress and maintain their skills in a variety of settings. We acknowledge that this consolidation period is often where gains are slow and also compromised by cognitive, motivational and behavioural issues. We also know that people in this group may have other competing diagnoses, such as substance abuse or mental health issues which need to be addressed sympathetically adding a greater degree of complexity to the delivery of the service. Additionally, our residents are supported to engage in local leisure, educational and vocational opportunities whilst being a part of a small community. The Close ABI Specialist Care is a custom designed and built facility that provides a warm domestic setting that underpins the concept of home. Keeping our services small and local, ensures that friends and family can still play an active part in our residents lives. We encourage and support our residents to develop new relationships within the local community. Our building design promotes the opportunity for increasing independence. Each room has TV and internet access. There is ample opportunity for residents to personalise their rooms and keep their precious belongings with them. Shared spaces include lounges, a quiet contemplative room and a communal dining area. There is access to gardens and hobby and recreational spaces. |
